Episode Notes

In this episode of Perinatal & Reproductive Perspectives, host Becky Morrison Gleed is joined by Deanna Blasi DeAndino, founder and CEO of The Mindset Tapestry.

Deanna shares her deeply vulnerable experience navigating severe postpartum depression following the birth of her second child during the COVID-19 era. She reflects on the gaps she encountered within the American healthcare system, the fear and disorientation of help-seeking, and the long, non-linear process of healing. Through holistic practices—movement, meditation, and positive affirmations—Deanna began rebuilding her sense of self, ultimately inspiring the creation of The Mindset Tapestry: a tool designed to help children (and caregivers) develop emotional resilience, a compassionate inner voice, and secure relational connection.

Topics Discussed

  • Experiencing postpartum depression during and after the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The difference between postpartum anxiety and severe postpartum depression

  • Help-seeking, emergency care, and feeling unsafe in clinical environments

  • Barriers to accessing perinatal mental health support

  • Holistic approaches to healing: movement, meditation, and routine

  • The neuroscience and practice of positive affirmations

  • Rewiring self-talk and rebuilding identity after PMADs

  • Creating The Mindset Tapestry from lived experience

  • Caregiver healing through co-regulation and shared affirmation practices

I didn’t realize you could feel that low. I didn’t realize you could be that depressed without having, like, a true reason why—I just was in a black hole.
